Synthesis and Characterization of (FA)3(HEA)2Pb3I11: A Rare Example of <1 1 0>-Oriented Multilayered Halide Perovskites

Abstract: Metal-halide perovskites have recently demonstrated great potential for a wide variety of optoelectronic applications, with their layered subfamily offering improved stability as compared to their three-dimensional analogues. Among the layered compounds, a subclass of <1 0 0> terminated compounds are currently dominating the field, while the <1 1 0> subclass is comparably much less explored. Here, we report on the synthesis of (FA) 3 (HEA) 2 Pb 3 I 11 obtained by room-temperature liquid−gas diffusion involving… Show more

“…The shortest distance between apical iodines from adjacent layers sets around 6.6 Å, see Figure b, irrespective of the specific DJ/ACI stacking. Such a distance is shorter than the one measured for reference BA 2 PbI 4 perovskite (8.6 Å) but still larger than champion PV-efficiency (4AMP)(MA) 2 Pb 3 I 10 perovskite (4.12 Å), or recently reported <110> terminated (FA) 3 (HEA) 2 Pb 3 I 11 (HEA = hydroxyethylammonium) layered perovskite (4.55 Å) . XRD measurements however highlight very short distance (between 3.8 and 4.2 Å) between the iodine atom from the inorganic frame and the one from the I-EA spacer, see Figure c, which is a hallmark of the present multilayered perovskite series.…”
