Synthesis and characterization of conjugated polymer based on tetracyano-anthraquinodimethane

Abstract: Conjugated polymer based on tetracyano-anthraquinodimethane (TCAQ) has been synthesized. The new polymer showed relatively large molecular weight, strong intra-molecular charge transfer, and low-lying lowest unoccupied molecular orbital level. This work has corrected the previous claim that TCAQ cannot be polymerized by palladium catalysts due to the complex formation between the tetracyano groups in TCAQ and palladium atoms in catalyst.

“…The dicyano‐ p ‐quinomethane fragments of these frameworks can be considered as a hybrid form of quinones and tetracyano‐ p ‐quinodimethanes (TCNQs). Note that researchers have turned their attention to TCNQ and other similar tetracyano‐containing conjugated molecules, including 11,11,12,12‐tetracyano‐9,10‐anthraquinodimethane, because of their use as promising n‐type organic semiconductors. The optical, photoluminescence (PL), and electrochemical properties of the compounds synthesized were evaluated.…”
