Synthesis and Characterization of Carbon Aerogels Electrodes Modified by Ag2S Nanoparticles

Abstract: In this work, electrodes based on carbon aerogels (CA) modified by Ag 2 S nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized by sputtering and solid-vapor reactions. Nanoparticles were identified as silver sulfide (acanthite phase) and their size was controlled by the sputtering time (5s deposition-8.65 nm ± 1.74 nm, 7s deposition-12.78 nm ± 8.53 nm and 45 s deposition-21.35 nm ± 10.07 nm). It was found that the electrodes properties vary according to the Ag 2 S NPs sizes. All modified electrodes exhibited an improved REDOX… Show more

“…This reaction involves the bonding of sulfur atoms to silver atoms in a crystalline lattice structure. 17,22) Elemental chemical analysis for the Ag 2 S electrodes was performed by energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, which confirms the elements presents are Ag, S, and C. No impurities were found.…”

“…The diffractograms display peaks that were characterized as an acanthine phase of Ag 2 S, concerning JCPDS card number # 14-0074, which match the results for the equilibrium phase and what is reported in similar investigations, Garcia Martinez synthesized carbon aerogel to use in biosensors achieving similar patterns, Ortiz Diaz synthesized thin films, and the result of the investigation resemble values of this study. 17,22) As well as a graphitic phase for carbon aerogel concerning JCPDS card number #22-1069, both broad reflection patterns were identified at just about the 23°and 43°2ª angles. These results are shown in Fig.…”

“…Meanwhile, the XRD pattern of AC700 shows new peaks at 30°, 34°, and 35°, which are identified as chaoite or white carbon I, a carbon allotrope (Gustian et al, 2015). Those new peaks indicate the presence of graphitic phase compliance with JCPDS#22-1069 (Martínez et al, 2021;Nguyen et al, 2019). It shows that steam activation changes some amorphous to graphitic phases.…”

“…Martinez at al. [50] proved that the Ag 2 S nanoparticles (NPs) on carbon aerogel increase the absorption of visible and near-infrared light, improve electric conductivity and REDOX reactions reversibility. Ag 2 S -CA electrodes were analyzed by SEM, XRD.…”
