Synthesis and Characterization of Azido Plasticizer

Abstract: In order to get a good compatibility with azidopolymers, plasticizers are required with a similar chemical structure. The energetic plasticizers EGBAA, DEGBAA, TMNTA and PETKAA were synthesized and characterized. They are liquid and the glass-transition temperatures are between À70.8 C and À34.1 C. The differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analysis shows an acceptable thermal stability for practical applications. The infrared spectrum shows distinctly the functional groups C-N 3 , ester, carbonyl and nitrate… Show more

“…The energetic plasticisers, viz., GAP, DANPE, EGBAA, and n-Bu-NENA have been synthesised in the laboratory on the lines of the reported procedures [13][14][15][16] , whereas the non-energetic plasticiser, DOP, was procured from trade. The plasticisers have been characterised on the basis of instrumental analysis, viz., FTIR, H 1 -NMR, HPLC, thermal analysis, and elemental analysis.…”

“…The glass transition temperature (T g )o fs ome mixtures of polymer and plasticizer for the effect of monomer mixture on the T g 's of copolymers systemsh ave been studied in the literature [12,[46][47][48][49][50][51].S ince, the molecular flexibility of the plasticizer is an importantm echanism for altering the brittleness of polymers via plasticization, the implication of this observation can be obtainedf rom the deviations of T g .I n the presented study,t he effect of adding plasticizer was observedi nt ermso fT g of polyNIMMO, which again indicates the compatibility of plasticizers with polyNIMMO. Maximum lowering of T g (À52 8C) was observed in the cases of BuNENA and DEGDN, where as BDNPAh as shown minimum lowering of T g at À38.85 8C ( Figure 2).…”

“…Several energetic plasticisers, such as nitratoethyl nitramines (NENAs) [115,[125][126][127][128], nitrate esters (e.g. nitroglycerine, butanetriol trinitrate (BTTN) and trimethylolethane trinitrate (TMETN)) [129], azido compounds [129][130][131], bis(2,2-dinitropropyl)acetal/bis(2,2-dinitropropyl)formal (BDNPA/ F) [115,127,128,132], nitroaromatic compounds (e.g. 2,4-/2,6-dinitroethylbenzene/2,4,6-trinitroethylbenzene) [115,127,128], nitrato and azido oligomers (GLYN, NIMMO and GAP oligomers) [133][134][135][136][137][138][139], have been developed worldwide for use in solid propellants and plastic bonded explosives.…”
