Synthesis and Characterization of 2D and 3D Zinc(II) Coordination Polymers with High Photocatalytic Activities for Removal of Methylene Blue Dye

Abstract: Two zinc(II) coordination polymers (CPs) {[Zn2(L)(MIPA)2]·2H2O}n (1) and {[Zn(L)(H2FA)]·2H2O}n (2) were synthesized via hydrothermal reaction by employment the 5‐methylisophthalic acid (H2MIPA) or 4,4‐(hexafluoroisopropylidene)diphthalic acid (H4FA) and the flexible ligand 1,6‐bis(2‐methylbenzimidazol‐1‐yl)hexane (L). The CPs were characterized by physicochemical and spectroscopic methods as well as by single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction analysis. CP 1 possesses a rare 3D threefold interpenetration framework with… Show more

“…The main reasons for this phenomenon might be the higher surface area and porous structure of ATC‐P10 . The higher surface area of ATC‐P10 could benefit it to accept more light , . And the porous structure, in which the multiple scattering of light could appear, would enhance the utilization of light of ATC‐P10 .…”

“…The possible photocatalytic mechanism for the MB degradation should be well‐known Fenton type mechanism . Under the irradiation of UV/Vis light, photogenerated electron‐hole pairs are generated and subsequently interact with O 2 or H 2 O to give rise to the highly active • OH radicals, which can decompose the dyes (MB) effectively in the photocatalytic process …”

“…[50] The linear plots of ln(C 0 /C t ) vs reaction time t were shown in the Figure 5d and Figure 6d, the apparent rate constants of MB was 0.01644 min À 1 for 1 and 0.01017 min À 1 for 2, and the apparent rate constants of RhB was 0.02293 min À 1 for 1 and 0.01561 min À 1 for 2, which can be defined by the pseudo-firstorder reaction model [ln(C t /C 0 ) = À kt]. [51][52][53] To confirm the stability of the catalysts, we compared PXRD before and after catalysis. The PXRD patterns of 1 and 2 are completely identical before and after catalysis (Figure S3 and Figure S4).…”

“…[54][55][56] Under UV/vis light irradiation, the catalyst can be induced to generate electron transfer from the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) to the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) and then form holes. [53,54] But the excited state of electron in the LUMO was easily lost. Meanwhile, the HOMO strongly needs one electron to return to its stable state.…”
