Synthesis and characterization data of monocationic and dicationic ionic liquids or molten salts

Abstract: Data presented in this article are related with the research paper entitled “Ecotoxicity assessment of dicationic versus monocationic ionic liquids as a more environmentally friendly alternative” [1]. The present article describes the synthesis steps and characterization data of a set of twenty-six imidazolium, pyrrolidinium and pyridinium-based ionic liquids (ILs) or molten salts: nine monocationic and seventeen dicationic. Specifically, the chemical structure of the compounds was confirmed by 1H NMR, 13C NMR… Show more

“…DILs and reference DTs and TILs were synthesized following literature methods . Their spectral data (Tables 2 and 3) were in accordance with those reported in the literature . BMImBr and BzMImCl were purchased from Iolitec and used after being kept at reduced pressure at 70 °C for 24 h. BzMImBr was obtained from BzMImCl using an ion exchange resin (Amberlite® IRA‐400 chloride form) pre‐treated with NaBr .…”

“…[58][59] Their spectral data (Tables 2 and 3) were in accordance with those reported in the literature. [60] BMImBr and BzMImCl were purchased from Iolitec and used after being kept at reduced pressure at 70°C for 24 h. BzMImBr was obtained from BzMImCl using an ion exchange resin (Amberlite® IRA-400 chloride form) pre-treated with NaBr. [61] The resulting white solid was kept at reduced pressure at 70°C for 24 h.…”

“…A full description of each chemical synthesis is provided in Montalbán et al, 2017. Full characterization data of all the compounds, including 1 H NMR, 13 C NMR and 19 F NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry (MS), are also provided in Montalbán et al, 2017. Melting point temperature or thermal decomposition temperature of the solid ILs at room temperature was measured and included in Montalbán et al, 2017 (see Table 2).…”

“…The main goal of this work was to measure the aquatic toxicity of a set of twenty-six imidazolium, pyrrolidinium and pyridinium-based ILs (9 monocationic and 17 dicationic) (see Table 1 in Montalbán et al, 2017) using the Vibrio fischeri inhibition test as the effective nominal EC50 concentration (concentration necessary to decrease 50% of luminescence produced by the bacteria population). To date, the synthesis of some of these compounds has not been reported and hence no report in the literature has studied the toxicity of the most of these ILs (22 out of 26) towards Vibrio fischeri.…”

“…[5][6][7][8] Recently, dicationic ionic liquids (DILs) that are composed of two mono-cations have been reported. [9][10][11][12] DILs have been clas-sied as symmetrical DILs (two mono-cations are identical) and unsymmetrical DILs (two mono-cations are different). In particular, imidazolium and pyridinium based DILs have shown greater promising physicochemical properties.…”
