Synthesis and biological evaluation of cyclopenten-1-one Mannich base oxovanadium compound

Abstract: 2-Hydroxy-3-methyl-2-cyclopenten-1-one Mannich base oxovanadium compound (CPD-VO) was synthesized. The human cancer cell lines SMMC-7721 (liver cancer) and SK-OV-3 (ovary cancer) were tested for their viability by MTT in vitro, which showed that CPD-VO exhibited a remarkable activity against the two cell lines, with IC 50 values \0.1 8 and \0.23 lg/ml, respectively. And clonogenic assays showed that CPD-VO at 6.250 lg/ml inhibited colony formation of SMMC-7721 cells by 99.10%. Also, CPD-VO suppressed tumor gro… Show more

“…For example, methylcyclopentenone (MCP) is a safe food additive as well as a flavor and pharmaceutical intermediate (Tian et al 2010). Moreover, methylcyclopentane, which is produced by MCP as an intermediate product, has a high octane number and can be used as an additive for ethanol gasoline (Sacia et al 2015).…”

“…The biological and pharmacological effects of vanadium element include coordination capability and chemical similarity between vanadate and phosphate. 2 Some inorganic vanadates show insulin-mimetic properties, as well as antitumor activities. A number of vanadium complexes with various types of organic ligands are reported to possess interesting antidiabetic activity.…”
