Synthesis And Biological Activity Of Substituted 4H-1,4-Benzothiazines, Their Sulfones, And Ribofuranosides

Abstract: The present article describes the synthesis of new 4H-1,4-benzothiazines via condensation and oxidative cyclization of substituted 2-aminobenzenethiols with β-diketones/β-ketoesters in dimethyl sulfoxide. The oxidation of these synthesized 4H-1,4-benzothiazines with 30% hydrogen peroxide in glacial acetic acid yielded 4H-1,4-benzothiazine sulfones and the reaction of these synthesized benzothiazines with sugar (β-D-ribofuranose-1-acetate-2,3,5-tribenzoate) afforded the new ribofuranosides. These compounds were… Show more

“…During the past two decades, we have found a growing interest in 1,4-benzothiazines. In fact, the 1,4-benzothiazines are the best known to possess biologically diverse activities (Goyal et al, 2013) such as antimicrobial, (Gautam et al, 2013) antifungal (Hans et al, 2008), antioxidant agents (Kumar et al, 2010), inhibitors of betaribosidases (Gao et al, 2005), potential vasodilators (Deshmukh et al, 2004) and as potent lipoxygenase inhibitors (Bakavoli et al, 2007). 1,4-Benzothiazines are the basis for novel dyes (Podsiadły et al, 2009) and behave as semiconductors (Hong et al, 2008).…”

“…These modified nucleosides have a wide variety of antiviral [24], antibacterial [25], and antitumor [26] properties. For the above reasons, we are interested in the synthesis and biological evaluation of nucleoside-type derivatives of the 10H-phenothiazine system.…”

“…These benzothiazines also exhibit promising and outstanding biological activities. For example, 1, 2-benzothiazine derivatives have broad significant bioactivities such as antibacterial and anti-inflammatory activities [6][7][8][9][10] .…”
