Synthesis and application of selective adsorbent for pirimicarb pesticides in aqueous media using allyl‐β‐cyclodextrin based binary functional monomers

Abstract: BACKGROUND Binary functional monomers, allyl‐β‐cyclodextrin (allyl‐β‐CD) and methacrylic acid (MAA) or allyl‐β‐CD and acrylonitrile (AN), were exploited in a fabrication of molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) for selective recognition and large enrichment of pirimicarb from aqueous media. RESULTS Special attention was paid to the computational simulation of the imprinting molecular and functional monomers. The morphological characteristics of MIPs made of allyl‐β‐CD and MAA (M‐MAA) were characterised by scan… Show more

“…1 Furthermore, close to 1400 pesticides are used world-wide, which highlights the widespread use in modern agriculture. 2 While pesticides confer distinct advantages, they also lead to several challenges due to the presence of pesticide residues in agricultural products, even they are produced under good agricultural practices. To ensure food safety, strict maximum residue levels (MRLs) of pesticides in food products have been specified by various nations and international organizations such as the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC) 3 and European Union (EU).…”

“…The M‐CD‐MAA possessed the optimal adsorption performance and the highest binding recovery (95.03%) toward CLEN owning to its stronger hydrogen bonding capability. This group further replaced the template molecules with di(2‐ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) [ 23 ] and pirimicarb [ 24 ] and explored the performance of these MIPs. It was found that the specific adsorption capacity of MIPs with dual functional monomers were better than that of corresponding MIPs with ally‐β‐CD as the single functional monomer due to the dual effect of the hydrophobic cavity of CD and the hydrogen bonding site of MAA or AA.…”
