Synthesis and antibacterial and antifungal activities of thiourea derivatives of the alkaloid anabasine

Abstract: A series of new N-acyl-substituted derivatives of the physiologically active alkaloid anabasine were synthesized and described. Their compositions and structures were identified using IR and 1 H NMR spectroscopy. These compounds were found to have moderate antibacterial and antifungal activities.

“…[346] The preparation of N-(β-d-glucopyranosyl)-N -substituted thioureas were accomplished by reaction of β-d-glucopyranosylammonium carbamate with an isothiocyanate in dry pyridine at room temperature. [347] The biological activity of macromolecules containing the 1-(acyl)thiourea group has also been evaluated.…”

“…Yet, the effect of nicotine on the bacterial community might be crucial even in relatively low concentrations and thus leads to a relatively similar community composition of the two wild type plants. Furthermore, anabasine which is the most dominant alkaloid in N. glauca is known to possess pronounced antibacterial properties 46 47 . Thus, anabasine may have a similar prominent impact on the bacterial community as nicotine.…”

“…Based on the structure of a compound, PASS (Prediction of Activity Spectra) [89] is an online tool which predicts different types of activities. PASS analysis of the title compound predicts activities given in the Table 4, cytochrome reductase activity with probability to be active (Pa) value of 0.763.Cytochrome bc1 reductase against the antifungal agent ilicicolin H [90] and substituted aromatic and aliphatic thiourea compounds are antifungal agent [91,92].…”
