Synthesis and adsorption properties of nanocrystalline ferrites for kinetic modeling development

Abstract: Nanocrystalline ferrites are known to be used in different applications, including industrial wastewater management. For environmental water issues, one of the most widely applied techniques is the adsorption of pollutants. The adsorption capacity of Congo red (CR) dye on different MFe 2 O 4 (M = Co 2+ , Mg 2+ , Mn 2+ , Ni 2+ , and Zn 2+ ) ferrites, synthesized by coprecipitation method, was determined. Specific isotherms and kinetic models were used to characterize the adsorption process. Interesting results … Show more

“…The presence of different pollutants in water that are characterized by their non-biodegradable nature can affect the environment and humans' health [1][2][3]. Due to pollutants, heavy metals occur in a significant number of places; this type of pollutant represents one of the biggest environmental problems [4,5].…”

“…Stock solutions of metal contaminants (Pb, Cd) were prepared at six different concentrations (10,20,40,60,80, and 100 mg L −1 ) using Pb and Cd salts (PbCl 2 , CdCl 2 × H 2 O) and Milli-Q ultrapure water (Millipore, Bedford, MA, USA) with pH adjusted to 5.0. The effects of two parameters (initial metal concentration and contact time) were investigated to study the adsorptive behavior of CHIT-PAAA.…”

“…Magnetic oxides, in particular spinel ferrites with nano-size dimension have been comprehensively studied due their distinctive physical properties such as high magnetocrystalline anisotropy, high coercivity, very high chemical and mechanical stability, moderated saturation magnetization, low losses of eddy currents and low conductivity [1][2][3][4][5]. Such unique properties of nano-ferrites make them suitable for various medical and technological applications like waste water treatment [6], treatment for hyperthermia [7], drug delivery carriers [8], magnetic, humidity and biosensors [9][10], microwave devices, high density data storage devices, magnetic recording media, computer memory chips and high frequency devices [11][12]. Even after several years of their discovery, the unique combination of magnetic and electrical properties, ferrites have drawn much attention to the scientific society and still growing the interest [13].…”
