Syntheses, Structures, and Photoluminescence of a Series of d10 Coordination Polymers with R-Isophthalate (R = −OH, −CH3, and −C(CH3)3)

Abstract: Eight new d 10 metal-organic coordination polymers, [Zn(mip)(bpa)] n (1), [Zn(mip)were prepared through hydrothermal reactions of H 2 mip or H 2 tbip (H 2 mip = 5-methylisophthalic acid and H 2 tbip = 5-tert-butylisophthalic acid) with different pyridyl-containing ligands (bpa = 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethane, bpp = 1,3-bis(4-pyridyl)propane, dpe = 1,2-di(4-pyridyl)ethene and bipy = 4,4 0 -bipyridine), respectively. Except for complexes 2 and 6, all the other six compounds were reported for the first time. These com… Show more

“…Due to the d 10 configuration of cadmium(II), these emissions are neither ligand-to-metal transfer (LMCT) nor metal-to-ligand charge transfer (MLCT). [38,39] Hence, we conclude that the four emission bands are from ILCT (intraligand charge transfer) predominantly (especially π*Ǟπ), similar to other complexes of d 10 configuration containing benzimidazole ligand. [40,41] …”

“…On the other hand, rodlike N,N'-donor building blocks, such as 4,4'-bipyridine, are widely employed to construct coordination polymers [7][8][9][10]. Herein, we report an ew three-dimensional Ni(II) supramolecular coordination polymeric network constructed by 3-methyl-4-amino-benzensulphonic acid and 4,4'-bipyridine.…”

“…As seen in Figure 7a, upon excitation at 241 nm, compound 1 showed two main luminescent emission peaks at 395 nm and 290 nm, while the main emission bands of both 2 and intermediate [BzQl]Br were found at 289 nm and 394 nm (Figure 7b), which may be attributed to the π*→π or n→π transition [27]. In addition, compounds 1 and 2 exhibited a strong emission band at 408 nm and a relatively weak emission band at 448 nm, which may be tentatively assigned to the metal-to-ligand charge transfer band between the Co(II) and the unoccupied π* orbitals of the isothiocyanate groups [28].…”
