Syntheses, structures, and magnetic properties of new rare earth coordination polymers constructed by 1,3,5-benzenetriacetic acid

Abstract: Three new coordination polymers with formula [Gd(bta)(H 2 O)·1.39H 2 O] n (1), [Dy(bta)(H 2 O)·1.35H 2 O] n (2) and [Y(bta)(H 2 O) 2 ·0.5H 2 O] n (3) were synthesized by using corresponding rare earth nitrates and 1,3,5-benzenetriacetic acid (H 3 bta) under hydrothermal/solvothermal reaction conditions, and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In these complexes, the carboxylate groups of bta 3− adopt different coordination modes, namely one carboxylate group adopts µ 2 -η 1 :η 1 -bridging and ea… Show more

“…Scheme 1 Possible coordination modes of bta ligand in the lanthanide(III) complexes [18][19][20][21] of reaction have a great impact on the MOFs structure [20]. The whole series of lanthanide(III) complexes was prepared under exactly the same conditions: in the reaction of lanthanide(III) chlorides (pH 5.3-5.8) and the ammonium salt of H 3 bta (pH & 5.5) in the 0.01 M solutions at 40°C at the molar ratio 1:1.…”

“…Recently, some interest has arisen in the construction of lanthanide MOFs with flexible organic ligands for example: Tb(III) and Ho(III) phenylene-1,2-diacetates [15], Sm(III), Eu(III), Tb(III), Ho(III) phenylene-1,3-diacetates [16], lanthanide phenylene-1,4-diacetates [17] and benzene-1,3,5-triacetates (Scheme 1) [18][19][20][21] owing to their flexibility and conformational freedoms. The use of lanthanide ions in that construction is due to the high coordination number (8 or 9) as well as special properties of the lanthanide ions.…”

“…The issue then continues with the study of Zhang et al [11]. This study discusses syntheses, structures, and magnetic properties of new rare earth coordination polymers constructed from 1,3,5-benzenetriacetic acid (H 3 bta), one of several rigid multicarboxylate ligands used in the past decade used in the construction of transition and/or rare earth metals polymeric complexes.…”

“…Two new polyoxometalates [Cd(2,2 0 -bpy) 3 ] 2 [PMo(V)Mo(VI) 11 O 40 ] and [H 3 PMo 12 O 40 ]Á3(4,4 0 -bpy)Á4H 2 O (bpy = bipyridyl) were synthesized and their structures determined. While both compounds have strong photoluminescence properties which make them excellent candidates for potential photoactive materials, the second compound also showed high catalytic activity for the oxidation of benzaldehyde to benzoic acid using H 2 O 2 as an oxidant.…”
