Syntheses, Structures and Antibacterial Activities of Two Nickel(II) Complexes with N‐Hexanoylsalicylhydrazide Ligand

Abstract: 2), were prepared by the reaction of Ni(OAc) 2 •4H 2 O with N-hexanoylsalicylhydrazide. The crystal structures of complexes were determined by X-ray diffraction analysis. Complex 1 takes triclinic symmetry with space group P-1 and cell dimensions of a=0.92377(2) nm, b=1.08786 (6) nm, c=1.29391(3) nm, α=76.395(4)°, β=78.418(3)°, γ=67.378(4)°, V=1.15772(7) nm 3 , Z=1, µ=12.63 cm -1 . Complex 2 belongs to triclinic system and P2(1) space group and the crystallographic data: a=1.4889(2) nm, b=1.0389(1) nm, c=1.499… Show more

“…The trinuclear complex has a linear Ni 3 cluster (NiANi distance of 4.611 Å ) surrounded by two chelatobridging ligands. This is similar to the coordination geometry of few trinuclear nickel(II) complexes in which three nickel(II) exhibit alternating square-planar and octahedral coordination environments [19]. The equatorial plane of the octahedron is perfectly planar and the nickel atom lies in this plane.…”

“…In the few trinuclear nickel complexes based on N-acylsalicylhydrazides which have been synthesized previously, pyridine has been used as an ancillary ligand. This allows adjustment of the pH of the reaction system and it can also complete the coordination sphere around the Ni cation (Lin et al, 2007;Luo, Wang et al, 2008;Qiu et al, 2010;Xiao & Jin, 2008;Yang et al, 2003Yang et al, , 2005Zhao et al, 2007). Recently, our group introduced neutral N-donor heterocyclic imidazole derivatives as ancillary ligands for these trinuclear nickel complexes.…”

“…Polynuclear transition metal complexes containing N-donor and phenolic O-donor atoms are of considerable interest in inorganic and bioinorganic chemistry (Alexiou et al, 2003;Kim et al, 2001;Liu et al, 2001;Yang et al, 2005). Trianionic pentadentate ligands of the N-acylsalicylhydrazide type may be synthesized by the coupling of a salicylhydrazide and an acyl chloride or anhydride.…”

“…10 A great deal of work has been performed on the synthesis and characterization of transition metal compounds with these Schiff base ligands, not only due to their novel structural features caused by the chelating capability of these ligands but also in view of their pharmacological and antitumour activity. [11][12][13] In particular, complexes with Schiff bases derived from amino acids [14][15][16] and ONO and NNO tridentate dianionic Schiff bases have been widely reported. [17][18][19][20] This type of ligand typically acts as a multidentate planar chelating agent coordinating through the phenolic and amide oxygens and imine nitrogen.…”
