“…One possibility would be to use the PVA coating properties to cross-link the polymer on the surface of the SPION or to functionalize them with reactive groups to target specific diseases. 80 Of course, these new modifications will need further in vitro studies. However, once a suitable formulation has been established, it may facilitate prevention of joint damage arising from RA.…”

“…SPIONs grafted with PEG do not show any cytotoxicity via MTT assay at a concentration up to 270 µgFe/mL, 24 h after incubation with RAW 264.7 and HepG2 cell lines [5]. Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) is also used to stabilize SPIONs and do not have any cytotoxic effects (MTS assay) for a concentration of 800 μgFe/mL 24 h after incubation with RAW 264.7 cells [18]. Furthermore, PVA coated SPIONs do not significantly activate or influence human T helper cells and have a negligible influence on T cell apoptosis at a concentration of 100 μgSPIONs/mL after 72 h [19].…”

“…Naked SPIONs (maghemite phase of 8 nm±2 nm crystallite's diameter) were preliminary coated with a mixture of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as described in previous works [31,32] (these PVA-coated SPIONs will simply be called SPIONs for the remainder of this document). Their hydrodynamic radius R H in a PBS buffer (phosphate buffered saline, Sigma-Aldrich Chemie) as measured by OCCS yielded a mean diameter of 42.0 nm with a standard deviation of 4.7 nm (20 measurements lasting 20 seconds each; line rate of 50 kHz with an exposure time of 18 µs; illumination power of 5 mW).…”
