Syntheses, crystal structure and spectroscopic characterization of new platinum(II) dithiocarbimato complexes

Abstract: The reaction of 4-iodobenzenesulfonamide or 4-fluorobenzenesulfonamide with CS 2 and KOH in dimethylformamide yielded the potassium N-R-sulfonyldithiocarbimates, K 2 (RSO 2 N@CS 2) [R = 4-IC 6 H 4 (1) and 4-FC 6 H 4 (2)]. These salts reacted with K 2 [PtCl 4 ] in water/methanol to yield complex anions bis(N-R-sulfonyldithiocarbimato)platinate(II), which were isolated as their tetrabutylammonium salts, (Bu 4 N) 2 [Pt(RSO 2 N@CS 2) 2 ] [R = 4-IC 6 H 4 (3) and 4-FC 6 H 4 (4)]. The structures of 2-4 were determine… Show more

“…These bands were assigned to the n as CS 2 and are shifted to lower wavenumbers with respect to the spectra of the ligands. [18][19][20] The positions observed for the n as CS 2 and nCN bands in the spectra of the compounds studied here were consistent with the complexation of the dithiocarbimate group by two sulfur atoms. The higher wavenumber values observed for nCN and the lower values observed for n as CS 2 compared with the related dithiocarbimate salts indicate a greater contribution of the canonical form (c) for the resonance hybrid in the complexes (Scheme 3).…”

“…They are shifted to higher wavenumbers with respect to the spectra of the ligands. [18][19][20] The spectral region of 1000-900 cm -1 is characteristic for disulfuric chelation. 22 Two medium bands at 930-950 cm -1 were observed in the spectra of 1, 2 and 4.…”

“…In the IR spectra all the three complexes display absorptions near 1435, 1216-1292, 1120 and 900 cm −1 characteristic of υ(C=N), υ asym (SO 2 ), υ sym (SO 2 ) and υ asym (CS 2 ) vibrations respectively indicating S, S coordination of the ligand dithiocarbimate with increasing importance of the canonical form I (Scheme S1 in the ESI) [20][21][22].…”

“…Complexes of the ligand aromaticsulfonyl dithiocarbimate and their possible applications have however been exploited recently [20][21][22]. This ligand has two important features (i) it may exhibit greater electron delocalization through C-S, C-N and N-SO 2 -Ar bonds and (ii) upon S, S coordination to a metal center it forms a more strained four-membered chelate ring in comparison with the five-membered ring formed with the mnt 2− complexes which in turn can influence intra and inter ligand S⋯S and M⋯S dimensions.…”
