The diazotisation of 2,2Ј-diaminotolane with one equivalent of HNO 2 yields the macrocyclic bis(tolanetriazene) (tolaneN 3 H) 2 in moderate yield. As shown by the crystal structure determination, the molecule is essentially planar. After deprotonation, the central cavity is suitable for complexation of transition metal ions. In pyridine solution, the anion (tolaneN 3 ) 2 2-is formed, which reacts with the acetates of Co 2+and Ni 2+ to the dark red coloured complexes [M((tolaneN 3 ) 2 )-(py) 2 ]. In seiner bayrischen Heimat, in Siegsdorf bei Traunstein, fand am 10. November 1953 ALFRED KLIEGL seine letzte Ruhestatt. Obwohl er, durch die Verhaltnisse der Nachkriegszeit bedingt, sich seit Jahren nicht mehr dorthic in sein schones Landhaus zur Erholung hatte zuriickziehen konnen, gaben ihrn viele Einheimische das Geleit. So fest hatte sich ihnen KLIEGLS giitige Art, die ihn, zumal auch bei den Kindern, beliebt gemacht hatte, eingepragt, daR sie ihn nicht vergessen konnten. Kollegen und Schiiler hatten zuvor in einer kurzen Andacht in Tiibingen von ihm Abschied genommen. So kam es bei seinem letzten Gang nicht recht zum Ausdruck, daR ALFRED KLIEGL im Laufe seines Lebens noch eine zweite Heimat lieb gewonnen hatte, der er sich aufs engste verbunden fiihlte, namlich die Universitat Tiibingen, an der er fast ein halbes Jahrhundert geforscht und gelehrt hatte.ALFRED KLIEGL wurde am 2. September 1877 in Miinchen geboren. Sein Vater, ADALBERT KLEGL, war urspriinglich Spitzentandler; als Kaufmann brachte er es zu Wohlstand und Ansehen. Er war aus dem Sudetenland gekommen, woher er wohl seine musikalische Begabung mitbrachte, die sich auf den Sohn vererbte. Dieser verlor ihn bereits mit 8 Jahren. Die Mutter AMALIE, geb.
