Abstract:Type 2 diabetes results from a combination of peripheral insulin resistance plus insulin secretion defects. Insulin resistance is characterized by a failure of skeletal muscle to clear excess blood glucose from the circulation, and is central to what is commonly called ‘pre‐diabetes'.
