Syntax and consistent equation semantics of hybrid Chi

Abstract: The hybrid χ (Chi) formalism integrates concepts from dynamics and control theory with concepts from computer science, in particular from process algebra and hybrid automata. It integrates ease of modeling with a straightforward, structured operational semantics. Its 'consistent equation semantics' enforces state changes to be consistent with invariants as in most hybrid automata. Ease of modeling is ensured by means of the following concepts: 1) different classes of variables: discrete and continuous, of subc… Show more

“…These include the Petri net mark-up language PNML [48], the discretely timed part of the hybrid process algebra χ [3], a subset of executable UML [32], as well as a number of domain specific languages like SML, a control language based on finite state machines used at CERN [18], and TRECS, a language that manages resource availability [33] in the wafer steppers manufactured by ASML.…”

“…Other hybrid process algebras have been developed, such as ACP srt hs [24], hybrid χ [25] and the φ-calculus [26], but they all have a property inherited from hybrid automata theory [27,28], requiring that abstract actions are used to represent discontinuities in the physics. HyPA and BHPC [29] are the only hybrid process algebras that allow discontinuous behavior without explicit communication between actions.…”
