Abstract:Greece and the surrounding areas experienced an early warm spell with characteristics of a typical summer Mediterranean heatwave in mid-May 2020. The maximum 2 m temperature at Kalamata (southern Greece) reached 40 °C on May 16th and at Aydin (Turkey), it was 42.6 °C on May 17th.
