Synergistic effect of polyfunctional silane coupling agent and styrene acrylonitrile copolymer on the water‐resistant and mechanical performances of glass fiber–reinforced polyamide 6

Abstract: Adverse effects of a high-water absorption rate on properties of a glass fiberreinforced polyamide 6 (GF-PA6) composite significantly reduce performance and limit application in humid environments. In this paper, a polyfunctional silane (PFS) coupling agent with amino (-NH 2 ) and imino (-NH) groups and styrene acrylonitrile copolymer (SAN) were added to a composite, GF-PA6, to prepare GF-PA6/SAN/ PFS composites via melt blending in a twin-screw extruder. The effects of SAN and PFS content on the static and dy… Show more

“…Those absorption peaks corresponding to benzene ring can attribute to the incorporation of St component. Stretching vibration of CN group from polymerized AN monomer exhibits an absorption peak at 2237 cm −1 26 . Typical absorption peaks of incorporated GMA component can also be observed in the FTIR curve of SAG.…”

“…Stretching vibration of C N group from polymerized AN monomer exhibits an absorption peak at 2237 cm −1 . 26 Typical absorption peaks of incorporated GMA component can also be observed in the FTIR curve of SAG. The C O stretching peak from the ester linkage appears at 1730 cm −1 and the absorption peak of epoxy group presents at 910 cm −1 .…”

“…The increase in HDT in PAs is generally attributed to the use of reinforcing fillers that induce the stiffness of the system (nanoparticles, short fibers, polymer blends, etc.) [ 38 ], including the amount of moisture [ 39 ], which in the case of sPA6 can be affected by the increase in polarity. However, this result is mainly attributed to the significant stiffness in star structures with low LA concentrations due to the strong hydrogen bonds between the matrix and the aromatic group surface [ 40 ].…”

“…1 However, during the processing of PA6, molding defects are prone to occur due to low melt strength, making it difficult to manufacture high-quality plastic products. [2][3][4][5] Meanwhile, the application field of PA6 has been difficult to expand because of weak toughness. 6 Therefore, it is necessary to propose an efficient method to improve melt strength and toughness of PA6.…”
