Synergistic effect of Ni–Ag–rutile TiO2 ternary nanocomposite for efficient visible-light-driven photocatalytic activity

Abstract: Robust photocatalytic activity of Ni–Ag–RTiO2 is attributed to the improved visible light absorption and effective charge separation due to intimate contact between Ni and RTiO2via Ag, as evidenced by Ti3+ in Ti 2p XPS and energy dispersive mapping.

“…32 Regarding the O species, high-resolution O 1s XPS spectra of all samples revealed two dominated peaks centered at ∼531.7 and ∼530.1 eV (Fig. 6(c)), relating to the OH − ions and lattice oxygens (O 2− ) in the crystallite framework, 66,67 thus indicating its high crystallinity. 68 However, two additional O 1s XPS peak were observed for all PAs x samples at ∼527 eV (orange line) and ∼528 eV (gray line), contributing to the double charge effect.…”

“…33,36 To our knowledge, a few papers in the literature report the synthesis and photocatalytic activity of a ternary NiO/Ag/ TiO 2 heterojunction photocatalyst for water splitting and organic MB dye and azo dye (methyl red) degradation. NiO/ Ag/TiO 2 composite was synthesized using various methods, including the irradiation method, 37 sonication-based wet chemical synthesis, 38 and gas phase using a spark discharge generator. 39 This study reports the synthesis and characterization of ternary NiO/Ag/TiO 2 heterojunction nanocomposites, which involve the formation of ternary Schottky heterostructures between (NiO−TiO 2 ), (Ag−NiO), and (Ag−TiO 2 ) for photocatalytic pollutant degradation under visible light irradiation .…”

“…This safe and low-cost process has been considered as one of the most promising routes to sustain the amount of energy required by humans in daily life. 6,7 With the aim to develop highly efficient and stable photocatalysts, various metal oxides, 8,9 metal chalcogenides, 10 and metal-free photocatalysts 11,12 have widely been studied for photocatalysis. However, even aer the intensive efforts throughout the world, this energy source remains a mirage due to the less efficient H 2 evolution reaction (HER), which necessitates continual work in this eld.…”
