Indoor photovoltaics (IPVs) are garnering increasing attention from both the academic and industrial communities due to the pressing demand of the ecosystem of Internet‐of‐Things. All‐polymer solar cells (all‐PSCs), emerging as a sub‐type of organic photovoltaics, with the merits of great film‐forming property, remarkable morphological and light stability, hold great promise to simultaneously achieve high efficiency and long‐term operation in IPV's application. However, the dearth of polymer acceptors with medium‐bandgap has impeded the rapid development of indoor all‐PSCs. Herein, we report a highly efficient medium‐bandgap polymer acceptor (PYFO‐V) through the synergistic effects of side chain engineering and linkage modulation and apply it for indoor all‐PSCs operation. As a result, the PM6:PYFO‐V‐based indoor all‐PSC yielded a highest efficiency of 27.1% under LED light conditions, marking the highest value for reported binary indoor all‐PSCs to date. More importantly, the blade coated devices using non‐halogenated solvent (o‐xylene) maintained an efficiency over 23%, demonstrating the potential for industry‐scale fabrication. Our work not only highlights the importance of fine‐tuning intramolecular charge transfer effect and intrachain coplanarity in developing high‐performance medium‐bandgap polymer acceptors, but also provides a highly efficient strategy for indoor all‐PSC application.This article is protected by copyright. In this study, six different donor‐π‐acceptor1‐π‐donor‐acceptor2 type random co‐polymers containing benzodithiophene as a donor, benzooxadiazole (BO), and thieno[3,4‐c]pyrrole‐4,6‐dione (TPD) as acceptor, have been synthesized and characterized. In addition to the acceptor core ratio at different values, the effect of aromatic bridge structures on the optical, electronic, and photovoltaic properties of six different random co‐polymers is investigated by using thiophene and selenophene structures as aromatic bridge units. To investigate how the acceptor unit ratio and replacement of aromatic bridge units impact the structural, electronic, and optical properties of the polymers, density functional theory (DFT) calculations are carried out for the tetramer models. The open‐circuit voltage (VOC), which is strongly correlated with the HOMO levels of the donor material, is enhanced with the increasing ratio of the TPD moiety. On the other hand, the short‐circuit current (JSC), which is associated with the absorption ability of the donor material, is improved by the increasing ratio of BO moiety with the π‐bridges. BO moiety dominant selenophene π‐bridged co‐polymer (P4) showed the best performance with a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 6.26%, a JSC of 11.44 mA cm2, a VOC of 0.80 V, and a fill factor (FF) of 68.81%.

Modification of the Electron‐Deficient Core on Unfused‐Ring Acceptors Enabling High Open‐Circuit Voltage of Organic Solar Cells

Unfused‐ring acceptors (UFAs) with different electron deficient central units, dithieno[3,2‐f:2′,3′‐h]quinoxaline (KS40) and dithieno[3,2‐e:2′,3′‐g]‐2,1,3‐benzoxadiazole (KS41) were synthesized and characterized. When blended with PM6, KS40 with a weaker electron accepting Quinoxaline exhibited a much higher open‐circuit voltage (VOC) of 0.945 V. As a result, the KS40‐based device achieved a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 12.2%. PM6:KS41 based devices, on the other hand, afforded improved charge mobilities as well as suppressed recombination behavior, which eventually led to an improvement in the fill factor (FF, 72.4%). Consequently, the device was able to achieve a PCE of 11.6%.This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.
