Synergistic Antibacterial Brilliant Blue/Reduced Graphene Oxide/Quaternary Phosphonium Salt Composite with Excellent Water Solubility and Specific Targeting Capability

Abstract: A water-soluble brilliant blue/reduced graphene oxide/tetradecyltriphenylphosphonium bromide composite (BB-rGO-TTP) was prepared by using noncovalent brilliant blue-functionalized reduced graphene oxide (BB-rGO) as the tetradecyltriphenylphosphonium bromide (TTP) carrier. Antibacterial performance of this novel composite was investigated for both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The results showed that the novel BB-rGO-TTP, combing the advantages of graphene and TTP, displayed excellent synergistic an… Show more

“…Some classes of such materials that have been widely explored include antimicrobial peptides, 16 quaternary ammonium polymers [17][18][19][20] and phosphonium salts. 21 For example, Tiller et al 17 covalently attached poly(4-vinyl-N-alkylpyridinium bromide) to glass slides by copolymerizing acrylated surface with 4-vinylpyridine and N-alkylating with alkyl bromide. The glass surfaces modified with N-hexylated poly(4-vinylpyridine) killed at least 94% of sprayed S. aureus, E. coli and P. aeruginosa upon contact.…”

“…An example of a new carbonaceous material is graphene, whose atoms are arranged in a 2D honeycomb structure [20]. As literature results show, graphene has a high adsorption capacity for removal of aqueous pollutants [21][22][23][24][25].In the present study, the potential application of graphene for 4-chloro-2-nitrophenol (4C2NP) adsorption Pol.
