Synergistic Adsorption and Flotation of New Mixed Cationic/Nonionic Collectors on Muscovite

Abstract: Abstract:The mixed cationic collector cetyltrimethylammonium chloride (CTAC) and nonionic collector octanol (OCT) was found to exhibit a synergistic effect on the flotation and adsorption of muscovite. To understand the underlying synergistic mechanism, flotation, contact angle, surface tension, and adsorption measurements were carried out. The results obtained from flotation measurements indicated that the mixed CTAC/OCT exhibits a better collecting ability than CTAC or OCT. The recovery of muscovite with CTA… Show more

“…This phenomenon could explain the high flotability observed for xenotime even at concentrations as low as those of hemi-micelle formation. The synergistic effect is reported in several studies with different types of collectors (anionic, cationic and non-ionic) and for different types of ores (sulfide, coal and silicate) [ [41] , [42] , [43] ]. The best efficiency in the use of reagent mixtures is attributed to the decrease in CMC and surface tension [ 20 ].…”

“…Each experimental curve (symbol) was fitted with a DLVO model (corresponding solid lines). As shown in Figure 9a, the monotonic repulsion was observed in ultrapure water for the whole range of studied forces due to negative charge on muscovite surface [13,36]. Differing from the crystal structure of muscovite, the chemical composition of tetrahedral talc is relatively stable and the amount of its isomorphism is less, accounting for only few negative charges on talc surface and weaker electrostatic interaction in water, as shown in Figure 9b.…”

“…From the thickness functional zeta potential, theory calculations, and measurement of an adsorption isotherm it is anticipated that TTPC may be a favorable type of collector, also, more preferable compared to dodecyl triethylammonium chloride. Besides the Table 1 Classification of surface-active agents with pros and cons 82,84,113,119,132,[151][152][153][154] 78 The flotation partition of palladium was analysed in the work. From the trial, it was inferred that the Cl − structure created complexes with palladium (Pd 2+ ) ions and delivered it as more soluble.…”
