Synergistic Activity of Silver Nanoparticles and Polyaminocyclodextrins in Nanosponge Architectures

Abstract: Four new composite materials, formed by silver nanoparticles embedded in polyamino‐cyclodextrin nanosponge architectures, were designed exploiting the affinity of polyamino‐cyclodextrins towards Ag+ ions. These materials were characterized by means of different techniques (thermogravimetry, FT‐IR, solid state NMR, SEM, HR‐TEM), and tested as catalysts for the reduction of nitroarenes and the oxidative coupling of anilines. The results obtained showed synergistic activity between the supramolecular binding abil… Show more

“…Nanosponges ( NS s) are hyper‐reticulated polymers constituted by supramolecular host units as the monomers, joined by suitable linker units. We have recently succeeded in obtaining pH‐responsive NSs based on polyamino‐cyclodextrin or polyamino‐calixarene architectures, able to vary their adsorption properties towards diverse model organic guests, and to support metal nanoparticle catalysts . Moreover, we also synthesized various pre‐ and post‐modified cyclodextrin‐calixarene co‐polymers ( CyCaNS s) bearing 1,2,3‐triazole linker units, which appeared interesting materials under several viewpoints.…”

“…Heterogeneous catalysts based on CD nanosponges and containing embedded inorganic nanoparticles were also described. However, since the aim of this review is focused on pure CDNSs, these studies will not be reported in detail, just a brief classification based on the type of metal used is given: 1) Pd 0 /Pd 2+ for hydrogenation reactions ( Sadjadi and Koohestani, 2021b ), cyanation reactions ( Khajeh Dangolani et al, 2019 ), Sonogashira and Heck ( Sadjadi et al, 2018b ; 2019b ); 2) Ag + for redox reactions ( Russo et al, 2019 ); 3) Au for 4‒nitrophenol synthesis ( Vasconcelos et al, 2016 ).…”

“…Cyclodextrin nanosponges connected through di‐, tri‐, and tetraamines via the primary rim forming large aggregates [158] are known to sequester Ag + ions from aqueous solution [159] . Ag particles of about 9.5 nm formed after reduction with NaBH 4 were found on products made with hexane‐1,6‐diamine and octane‐1,8‐diamine.…”
