Synergetic Effect of Corrosion and Ultrasonic Cavitation Erosion on Leaded Brass

Abstract: The present study aims to reveal behaviors of leaded brass as it is exposed to the synergetic effect of corrosion and cavitation erosion. The specimens were submerged in seawater for ultrasonic cavitation erosion experiments. The cumulative mass loss, surface microstructure and three-dimensional surface morphology were analyzed to characterize the time-dependent damage of the specimens. For comparison, cavitation erosion in deionized water was investigated. The results show that the mass loss of leaded brass i… Show more

“…This is because both shock waves and micro-jets have limited effective ranges. A vast amount of theoretical and experimental studies indicate that the cavitation bubbles can damage to the material surface it only when they are at a certain distance [65] , [66] , [67] .…”
