“…Hyponatremia, occasionally experienced in SCLC patients, has been previously reported to aVect the survival of SCLC marginally (Sagman et al 1991;Kawahara et al 1997). However, the correlation of SIADH with the prognosis of SCLC is controversial (Tai et al 2006;List et al 1986;Harper et al 1982). On the other hand, there are several cases whose serum-sodium level was normal despite elevation of serum AVP level , and a third of patients with SCLC developing hyponatremia had no AVP activity in their plasma (Kamoi et al 1987;Bliss Jr et al 1990;.…”

“…The syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone has been reported in conjunction with many types of cancer, most frequently in association with small cell lung carcinoma. [6][7][8] Because of the common linkage between LE, SIADH, and cancer, a thorough workup for malignancy needs to be initiated in any patient with subacute memory impairment, seizures, and hyponatremia. We discuss the case of a patient with this type of presentation who was ultimately found to have SIADH due to ectopic antidiuretic hormone (ADH) production by a neuroendocrine tumor with a Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) immunophenotype.…”

“…Paraneoplastic hyponatremia is important to recognize and treat because it can lead to life-threatening neurological complications [4]. It is also associated with poorer prognosis [5], and recurrence of hyponatremia may herald a relapse of the disease [6]. Furthermore, hyponatremia may also complicate treatment as it may be aggravated by certain types of chemotherapy, such as in our patient's case.…”
