Synchronous Kaposi sarcoma and renal cell carcinoma in an elderly male patient (a very uncommon reported entity): A case report

Abstract: Based on the literature, there are only three reports available to date on synchronous Kaposi sarcoma (KS) and renal cell carcinoma (rCC), at least to the best of our knowledge. the present study reports a rare case of synchronous classic KS and clear cell rCC. a 69-year-old male presented with painful, purplish nodular lesions on the dorsal aspect of his hands and feet. He had no chronic medical illnesses or prior surgical interventions. an excisional biopsy of one of the lesions revealed a nodular dermal les… Show more

“…Based on the available reports to date mentioning the strong association between cutaneous cancer (melanoma, squamous cell carcinoma, eccrine porocarcinoma, Kaposi sarcoma) and RCC, specific characteristics emerge, such as a high risk of developing secondary malignancy, and the simultaneous presence of multiple malignancies in the same patient, with different locations, morphologies, histology, etiologies, and pathogenesis [78][79][80][81][82]. Regarding the coexistence of cutaneous melanoma and RCC, it has been noted that these neoplasms predominantly occur in certain families and have an inherited pattern of cancer predisposition [78,79].…”

“…A clinical case of a patient with advanced RCC and squamous cell carcinoma of the zygomatic region showed a durable response to immunotherapy [81]. The simultaneous occurrence of Kaposi sarcoma (classic, endemic, associated with human immunodeficiency syndrome or transplantation) and RCC may be triggered by a common angiogenic factor, VEGF [82]. Multiple primary malignant neoplasms represent an unusual phenomenon.…”

“…Upon frozen section examination, tumour is categorically ascertained by trimorphic cellular component of miniature, intermediate and giant cells. Focal intra-tubular spermatocytic tumour dispersed within circumscribing parenchyma may be misinterpreted as germ cell neoplasia in situ whereas specific subtypes of germ cell neoplasia appear absent [3,4].…”

“…Variable magnitude of tumour cells expounds a tumefaction composed of medium cells > miniature cells > giant cells in decreasing order of frequency [4,5]. Anabundance of mitotic figures, atypical mitosis and apoptotic bodies is observed.…”
