Synaptonemal complex antigen location and conservation.

Abstract: Abstract. The axial cores of chromosomes in the meiotic prophase nuclei of most sexually reproducing organisms play a pivotal role in the arrangement of chromatin, in the synapsis of homologous chromosomes, in the process of genetic recombination, and in the disjunction of chromosomes. We report an immunogold analysis of the axial cores and the synaptonemal complexes (SC) using two mouse monoclonal antibodies raised against isolated rat SCs. In Western blots of purified SCs, antibody II52F10 recognizes a 30-an… Show more

“…In tomato, the MRE11 foci are located primarily but not exclusively in the distal euchromatic segments of the chromosomes, and up to late pachynema, their association with the SC is stable even after DNase treatment ( Fig. 4; Moens et al 1987Moens et al , 2002Anderson et al 1997Anderson et al , 2001). As pachynema proceeds, the proportion of MRE11 foci associated with chromatin increases, again consistent with the abrupt loss of ENs from SCs during early pachynema (Stack and Anderson 1986a;Anderson and Stack 2005).…”

“…The anti-Rad51 rabbit polyclonal antibody (Ab-1) was purchased from Oncogene Research Products. Antibody incubation and detection procedures were a modification of the protocol of Moens et al (1987) as described by Keegan et al (1996). Combinations of donkey anti-rabbit and donkey antigoat IgG secondary antibodies conjugated to either FITC or TRITC were used for detection (Jackson ImmunoResearch Laboratories).…”

“…The localization of rat/mouse SCP3 (Moens et al, 1987;Lammers et al, 1994), also called COR1 in hamster (Dobson et al, 1994), has been mainly studied in surface-spread rodent spermatocytes. SCP3 first appears at AEs in leptotene spermatocytes, and is found at LEs during pairing and synapsis during zygotene and pachytene, respectively.…”
