Synaptic Spinules are Reliable Indicators of Excitatory Presynaptic Bouton Size and Strength in CA1 Hippocampus

Abstract: Synaptic spinules are thin, finger-like projections from one neuron that become fully embedded within the presynaptic or postsynaptic compartments of another neuron. While spinules are a conserved feature of synapses across the animal kingdom, their specific function(s) remain unknown.
