Symmetry breaking and consistent truncations from M5-branes wrapping a disc

Pieter Bomans,
Christopher Couzens,
Yein Lee
et al.

Abstract: We construct new supersymmetric solutions corresponding to M5-branes wrapped on a topological disc by turning on additional scalars in the background. The presence of such scalar fields breaks one of the U(1) isometries of the internal space, explicitly realising the breaking by the Stückelberg mechanism observed previously. In addition, we construct a consistent truncation of maximal seven-dimensional gauged supergravity on the disc to five-dimensional Romans’ SU(2) × U(1) gauged supergravity, allowing us to … Show more

“…In particular, it would be interesting to find Sasaki-Einstein metrics that arise from fibrations over four-dimensional orbifolds. Examples of these that have been recently introduced are fibrations of a spindle over another spindle [45][46][47] or the quadrilaterals of [48]. Similarly, supersymmetric reductions Kähler metrics on WCP 2 have already appeard in [4] and, more recently, in [49,54].…”

“…It is interesting to compare this to other solutions describing branes wrapped on the product between spindles and Riemann surfaces that have appeared in the literature [45][46][47]. In those cases, the spindle is always fibered over the Riemann surface, which is different from the…”

“…Ordinarily in 4d SCFTs, there are non-perturbative formulae that relate the A-type and B-type Weyl anomalies to 't Hooft anomalies for the superconformal R symmetry [38]. In [73], it was conjectured that a Σ obeys the same relation to defect Ranomalies as a standalone theory: 18 a Σ = 9k rrr − 3k r 32 , (6.6) 16 In light of the compact LLM-type solutions found recently in [81] where the additional internal U(1)…”
