Symmetric tape round REBCO wire withJe(4.2 K, 15 T) beyond 450 A mm−2at 15 mm bend radius: a viable candidate for future compact accelerator magnet applications

Abstract: Due to an error in the production process, the title of this article should read 'Symmetric Tape Round (STAR) REBCO wire with J e (4.2 K, 15 T) beyond 450 A mm −2 at 15 mm bend radius: a viable candidate for future compact accelerator magnet applications'. Furthermore, all references to 'symmetric tape round wires' should be 'Symmetric Tape Round (STAR) wires'.In the 'Tape preparation' subsection 'The REBCO tape was then slit from a width of 12-2.5 mm using a reel-to-reel laser slitting machineK' should read '… Show more

“…Recently, a 42.5 T magnet has been demonstrated, with 11.3 T contributed by REBCO insert coils [14]. Also very recently, high performance REBCO-round wires with ultra-small diameters of 1.8 mm and other round REBCO wires have been developed for low temperature high-field magnet applications in accelerators [15][16][17][18].…”

“…If coated conductors are prepared with the copper on the ceramic side thicker than the copper on the Hastelloy side, the ceramic layer will be located close to (or at) the neutral plane, and the core diameter could be further reduced, as demonstrated in [121].…”

“…Although one can make CCT magnets using stacked-tapes or Roebel cables [104,110], we focus on round conductors that are under active development in the U.S. [31,34,38]. With multiple layers of tapes wrapped helically around a round former, the tapes are transposed within each layer.…”

“…The latest record performance for Bi-2212 round wire is from [28]. Three cable candidates are considered for REBCO, the Roebel cable [29], the CORC R wire [30] and the symmetric tape round (STAR) wire [31]. Other cable configurations such as twisted-stack [32] and exfoliated REBCO cable [33] may also be viable for accelerator magnet applications.…”
