The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) that is challenging the health sector and negatively impacting the global economy takes us back to the 2009 influenza A (H1N1) virus pandemic that brought the world to a standstill. In 2009, H1N1 became a significant health concern for several months. It mainly affected people under the age of 65 hyears who had no prior immunity, including children. Among the high-risk populations were pregnant patients and those with chronic cardiac, pulmonary, or respiratory diseases. These patients were at risk of developing severe pneumonia and respiratory complications. Cystic fibrosis (CF) represents a form of severe chronic lung disease in young adults and is the major fatal hereditary disorder of Caucasians in the United States. An online search of PubMed and Google Scholar was conducted to find relevant literature that explicitly examines patients with CF and H1N1.

Pandemi virus Systemic Acute Respiratory Syndrome–coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) belum dapat dihentikan hingga pertengahan Juni 2020. Kesulitan menemukan obat mujarab untuk penyakit ini membuat kehadiran vaksin menjadi sangat berharga. Pada saat ini ada lebih dari 100 kandidat vaksin di seluruh dunia, dengan sedikitnya 10 di antaranya telah mulai menjalani uji klinik pada manusia. Vaksin pada tahap terjauh adalah dari University of Oxford yang telah memasuki fase 3. Pendekatan yang digunakan dalam pembuatan vaksin berlainan, dan beberapa cara belum pernah digunakan sebelumnya. Sebagian vaksin dalam penelitian adalah vaksi yang awalnya ditrujukan untuk SARS-CoV yang lama maupun Middle East Respiratory Syndrome-coronavirus (MERS-CoV). Target utama pada umumnya adalah protein spike S. Beberapa kendala perlu diperhatikan dalam upaya penelitian vaksin ini, seperti belum pernah adanya vaksin untuk virus corona, fenomena antibody-dependent enhancement (ADE), serta kemungkinan imunopotensiasi. Di Indonesia ada 4 lembaga yang juga meneliti vaksin, ditambah 3 lembaga lain yang bekerja sama dengan institusi di luar negeri untuk langsung masuk dalam fase uji klinik. Setelah vaksin ditemukan perlu adanya jaminan kesetaraan dalam memperoleh akses antar berbagai negara.

We have proposed a model considering two equally sized population (group A and group B) with low and high levels of disease tolerance. We have argued that in the more tolerant group (group B) the progression of the disease with respect to time will be slow with lower number of infections at any given time. We attribute this effect to the innate immunity which advantageously, can also be one of the major contributing factors for flattening the curve. We have compared the growth of Covid-19 disease in various countries to understand this effect.
