Swarm Intelligence Based Technique for Rule Mining in the Medical Domain

Abstract: In this paper, we present a swarm intelligence based technique for mining rules over a medical database. Rules are a suitable method for representing real world medical knowledge because of their simplicity, uniformity, transparency, and ease of inference. Swarm Intelligence (SI) has been applied to the rule mining process as its dynamic nature provides flexibility and robustness to process of rule mining. Traditional methods of rule mining generate a large number of rules with too many terms, making the syste… Show more

“…It was found that for strategic decision making, the predictive Apriori algorithm was the best suited to its highest and lowest values. The authors noticed that the limitations of the method were that success of extracting association rules depended on the datasets as some of the datasets were not suited for any kind of association rules [13].…”

“…Detection of brain tumors (Chandraet al [7]), extraction breast cancer patterns (Yeh et al [8]) and classification rule construction for breast cancer data sets (Gandhi et al [9]) are put in this field. With using a hybrid of PSO and ACO, a rulebased system has been proposed by Mangat, for rule mining in medical domain in [10], also a hybrid model for medical data classi¿cation by integrating a case-based reasoning approach and a particle swarm optimization model is developed by Chang et al in [11].…”
