SUV39H1 deficiency suppresses clear cell renal cell carcinoma growth by inducing ferroptosis

Abstract: Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is a common kidney malignancy characterized by a poor prognosis. Suppressor of variegation 3–9 homolog 1 ( SUV39H1 ), which encodes a histone H3 lysine 9 methyltransferase, has been reported to act as an oncogene in many cancers. However, it is unclear whether SUV39H1 is involved in ccRCC. Here, we report that SUV39H1 expression is frequently upregulated in ccRCC tumors and is significantly correlated w… Show more

“…DPP4 was reported to be a therapeutic target for coronavirus pandemics, such as the Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) and severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS-CoV)-2 (i.e., coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)) [ 46 , 47 , 48 ]. DPP4 contributes to ferroptosis in clear cell renal cell carcinoma [ 49 ], while DPP4 had high mRNA expression under hypoxic growth in ovarian cancer cells [ 50 ]. Interestingly, our data demonstrated that DPP4 had low expression levels in breast cancer tissues at both the transcription and protein levels, but was associated with poor prognoses in breast cancer patients.…”

“…Disorders of FRGs have been reported in numerous malignant tumors, suggesting a vital role of FRGs in tumor progression (23,24). The abnormal FRGs are reported to be involved in the initiation and progression of ccRCC (12,25). However, the comprehensive understanding of FRGs and ccRCC prognosis remains largely unknown.…”

“…SUV39H1 deficiency inhibits the growth of clear cell renal cell carcinoma by inducing ferroptosis ( Wang et al, 2021 ). Silencing PTPN18 can induce ferroptosis in endometrial cancer through p-P38-mediated downregulation of GPX4/xCT ( Wang et al, 2021 ). Apatinib promotes ferroptosis in colorectal cancer by targeting ELOVL6/ACSL4 ( Tian et al, 2021 ).…”
