Sustained-release study on Exenatide loaded into mesoporous silica nanoparticles: in vitro characterization and in vivo evaluation

Abstract: BackgroundExenatide (EXT), the first glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist, has been approved as an adjunctive therapy for patients with type 2 diabetes. Due to EXT’s short half-life, EXT must be administrated by continuous subcutaneous (s.c.) injection twice daily. In previous studies, many studies on EXT loaded into polymer materials carriers for sustained release had been reported. However, these carriers have some defects, such as hydrophobicity, low surface energy, low mechanical strength, and poor che… Show more

“…6, TQ, Nio/TQ and Nio/TQ inhibited the MCF-7 cell migration remarkedly. In a similar study, the migration and invasion of TQ at a dose of 5 µM inhibited the growth, migration and invasion in both of CaSki and SiHa cell lines 49 .
Figure 6Effect of TQ, Nio/TQ, curum, Nio/carum and blank niosome on wound healing 0, 7 and 21 h after wound creation. The error bars represent the mean ± SD from three replicate experiments.

“…Nanomedicine is one of the essential parts of nanotechnology with extensive applications in different areas, especially drug delivery [30][31][32][33][34][35]. Different nanocarriers are used for drug delivery, and niosomes are one of the best carriers [32,36,37].…”

“…Hence, focus has shifted towards large pore silica structures (10 nm or higher) in order to achieve high loading with room for further modification [20,21,22]. Chen et al [23] showed evidence of controlled release of exenatide using SBA-15 type silica microparticles at pH 7.4. However, this study investigated intravenous administration of exenatide-loaded microparticles.…”
