PurposeThis study explores the connection between big data analytics capabilities and the competitive advantage of the manufacturing sector in Jordan through the mediating role of green radical innovation and green incremental innovation as well as the moderating role of a data-driven culture.Design/methodology/approachFor the purpose of this study, 356 questionnaires were analysed. Convergent validity and discriminant validity tests were performed through structural equation modelling in the Smart-PLS programme, and the data reliability was confirmed. A bootstrapping technique was used to analyse the data. The mediating effect for green radical and green incremental innovation and the moderating effect for data-driven culture were performed.FindingsThe empirical results showed that the proposed moderated-mediation model was accepted because the relationships between the constructs were statistically significant. The results of the data analysis supported a positive relationship between big data analytics capabilities and the competitive advantage as well as a mediating effect of green radical innovation and green incremental innovation. It was confirmed that there is a moderating relationship for data-driven culture between green radical innovation, green incremental innovation and competitive advantage.Research limitations/implicationsThis cross-sectional study provides a snapshot at a given moment in time, a methodological limitation that affects the generalization of its results, and the results are limited to one country.Originality/valueThis research developed a theoretical model to incorporate big data analytics capabilities, green radical innovation, green incremental innovation, data-driven culture, and competitive advantage. This study provides new findings that bridge the existing research gap in the literature by testing the moderated mediation model with a focus on the organizational benefits of big data analytics capabilities to improve levels of green innovation and competitive advantage in the Jordanian manufacturing sector.

PurposeThe research aimed to study the influence of green human resources management practices (GHRMPs) on green supply chain management (GSCM) and environmental performance while examining how those green practices affect environmental performance.Design/methodology/approachThe study investigated 314 cases (responses) from the small and medium-sized enterprises belonging to the service sector from an emergent economy (i.e. Oman). The study model was developed based on the theory of resource-based view and the theory of ability, motivation and opportunity. The structural equation modeling was used for hypotheses testing using SmartPLS 3 software.FindingsBased on the findings, green hiring and green training and innovation have a positive and significant effect on GSCM, while both of them have no effect on environmental performance. Further, green performance management and compensation positively influenced the environmental performance but not GSCM. Furthermore, GSCM significantly and positively influenced environmental performance.Originality/valueGHRMPs and GSCM can enhance environmental performance. Organizations should consider this interesting finding if they aim to reduce their negative environmental effect, conserve energy, prevent pollution and recycle garbage. Despite the fact that the present environment-friendly culture is still in its infancy, it adds uniqueness to this research by investigating the phenomenon's importance.

The pursuit of net‐zero economy goals and government emphasis on sustainable performance has compelled numerous firms to focus on sustainable production through the adoption of net‐zero economy‐based green innovation. The digital transformation of manufacturing systems and supply chains, supported by the utilization of big data and the adoption of net‐zero economy‐oriented lean practices in the presence of net‐zero economy‐based green practices, can converge to enhance net‐zero economy‐based green innovation in manufacturing firms. This convergence leads to an improvement in green competitive advantage and net zero‐based green performance. To examine the aforementioned linkages using a framework based on the dynamic capabilities view paradigm, a time‐lagged design was employed to collect data from 594 manufacturing firms. The empirical findings indicate that big data analytics capabilities and net‐zero economy‐oriented lean practices of firms significantly influence net‐zero economy‐based green innovation. Green organizational identity strengthens the effect of net zero‐based green innovation on green competitive advantage and net zero‐based green performance.
