Sustainable EOQ under Lead-Time Uncertainty and Multi-Modal Transport

Abstract: Abstract:In this paper, we examine a sustainable economic order quantity (S-EOQ) problem with a stochastic lead-time and multi-modal transportation options. With the S-EOQ, decisions of order quantities, as well as a reorder point could be influenced by various factors, including unit price, stock-out cost, lead-time variability and emission costs. For a better understanding, we present a mathematical model of the concomitant S-EOQ problem and, using numerical experiments, explore various scenarios to determin… Show more

“…Several authors considered different demand patterns when addressing sustainable lot sizing problems for non-perishable and cold items such as deterministic ( Battini et al, 2018 , Lee et al, 2017 ), dynamic or time varying ( Absi et al, 2013 , Shuang et al, 2019 ), and stochastic ( Mohammed et al, 2017 , Muriana, 2016 ). However, the dynamic or stochastic demand patterns are more practical as they better capture real-life dynamics of the demand for many products such as the ones under study here.…”

“…A sustainable economic order quantity problem was examined by Lee et al [31] with multi-modal transportation options and a stochastic lead-time. Using numerical experiments, a mathematical model of the concomitant sustainable economic order quantity was presented and various scenarios were explored to determine the effects of incorporating sustainability considerations into the traditional inventory model on operational decisions which include sourcing decisions and the choice of transportation model combinations.…”

“…He et al [14] examine the production lot-sizing issues of a firm under the Cap and Trade and Carbon Tax regulations, respectively. Recently, Shu et al [15] extend the classical EOQ model, considering carbon emissions in (re)manufacturing activities and product transportation and provide an inventory cost model with carbon constraints, while Lee et al [16] examine a sustainable economic order quantity (S-EOQ) problem with a stochastic lead-time and multi-modal transportation options. By applying the model to various numerical scenarios, they show the effects of incorporating sustainability considerations into the traditional inventory model on operational decisions.…”
