Sustainability Potential for Renewable Energy System in Isolated Area that Supports Nantu Boliyohuto Wildlife Reserve

Abstract: It is still a challenging task to fulfill power demand of Tumba Hamlet in Tamaila Utara Village, which is an isolated area in the buffer zone of Nantu Boliyohuto Wildlife Reserve. The efforts to fulfill the demand had been carried out by the local government by distributing the Solar Home System (SHS) to all households in 2013. However, the SHS performance quickly declined because the solar panels in the rooftop covered by dense and lush trees, and then it did not work at all in 2018. This research performs pr… Show more

“…In 2019, the installed capacity was around 418 MW or 2% of the theoretical potential [2]. In academic literature, small hydropower enjoys more attention than its large counterpart with individual case studies [37][38][39][40], a review [41] and a climate change impact study [42].…”

“…The definition of sustainability can be understood from four relevant dimensions: economy, environmental protection, technology, and society [5]. The concept has received increasing attention in the development of renewable energy projects [6]. However, compared with the independent microgrid structure, the regional microgrid interconnection system structure is more complex, and its characteristics are also different from those of a single microgrid [7].…”
