Sustainability appraisal of arsenic mitigation policy innovations in West Bengal, India

Abstract: Treatment of arsenic–contaminated shallow groundwater upon extraction has become imperative to provide safe drinking water in remote villages in West Bengal, India. Arsenic Removal Plants (ARPs) stabilizing arsenic–rich wastewater ‘in–situ’, though save valuable time and money, require high technical expertise for operation and maintenance, which is difficult to facilitate in rural communities lacking necessary infrastructural support. Contrarily, Arsenic Removal Units (ARUs) have been widely accepted by the s… Show more

“…You may encourage sustainability in your field and in your industry by using CAD software. Making design decisions based on environmental standards and criteria including life cycle analysis, carbon footprint, and eco-labeling is possible with the use of CAD software [24]. Using renewable materials, biodegradable parts, or circular design concepts are just a few examples of creative solutions that can lessen the environmental effect of your products that you can investigate using CAD software.…”

“…The application of waste in the manufacturing of construction materials is broadly acknowledged as an effective approach to limit the harmful consequences of WP and potential arsenic toxicity [ 18 ]. Past studies have shown that reusing waste materials has become a widespread strategy in developing and developed countries to reduce the environmental impacts of waste materials [ 19 , 20 ].…”

“…This approach involves incorporating waste materials (including arsenic-containing wastes) into the construction process, thus preventing their dispersal and to mobilise potential risks to health and the environment. This effectively mobilises the toxic substances within a solid matrix and reduces the chances of releasing them into the environment [ 18 , 21 ]. Previous studies investigated the use of WP in ordinary concrete that used plastic in two forms: plastic fibres or aggregates [ 1 , 2 , 22 , 23 ].…”

“…In recent years, there has been an increasing recognition of the importance of incorporating advanced methodologies to tackle emerging environmental issues such as liquid transportation, especially water [1,2]. Liquid storage and transporting tanks are structures whose utilizations are increasingly widespread in engineering applications, such as oil transportation, water supply, and the nuclear industry.…”
