“…Specifically, virtue of organization and virtue of colleagues are consistent with the virtue stimuli proposed by Keltner and Haidt (2003). Perceived meaningfulness also shares similarities with the virtue stimuli, because people engaging in meaningful work often display human goodness or other strength of character (Meng et al, 2022). Ability and achievement of organization, ability and achievement of colleagues, dedication of colleagues and personal growth and achievement are all consistent with Keltner and Haidt's (2003) ability stimuli; beauty of workplace and charisma of colleagues align with Keltner and Haidt's (2003) beauty stimuli.…”

“…Buffering roles of meaningful work in counseling trainees have not been addressed thus far to our best knowledge. Nevertheless, our findings are aligned with some studies that identified personal resources as buffering moderators in the relationship between risk factors and outcomes (e.g., Cheung et al., 2019; Mehta & Sharma, 2021), given that meaningful work is considered a crucial personal resource (Benitez et al., 2023; Meng et al., 2023). Our findings showed that the higher the meaningful work of counseling trainees, the weaker the negative relationship between their academic burnout and career choice satisfaction.…”

“…While meaning in life was frequently discussed in social psychology and psychiatry literatures, it rarely caught the research attention of organizational psychology scholars. As was explicitly indicated in the COR theory, to most individuals a sense of purpose and meaning in life is among the commonly valued resources (Hobfoll et al, 2018; Meng et al, 2022). In this study, we found that helplessness at work brought by the critical incidents employees were faced with in work settings may spill over to the life domain and negatively influence their meaning in life, which illustrates the importance of examining meaning in life in future work–life conflict/balance studies.…”
