Survival in adult acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL): A report from the Swedish ALL Registry

Abstract: Objectives As new, effective therapies emerge for acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL), the results of clinical trials need to relate to standard of care. Methods We used the population‐based Swedish ALL Registry to evaluate characteristics, treatment and long‐term outcome in 933 patients with diagnosis between 1997 and 2015. Results The median age was 53 years. The frequency of Philadelphia (Ph)‐positive leukaemia was 34% of examined B‐ALL with a peak incidence at 50‐59 years. Five‐year overall survival (OS) i… Show more

“…While Lennmyr et al [57] showed that all adult patients affected by lymphoblastic leukemia was successfully treated with allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (alloHSCT) with an increased overall survival rate of more than 10% in 5 years [57]. Meanwhile, Schlenk et al [58] evaluated alloHSCT among patients having acute myeloid leukemia (AML) showed a significant beneficial impact after treatment.…”

“…AL has become a global health concern due to its increasing incidence over the past decade (3). The worldwide incidence of AML has gradually increased from 63.84x10 3 cases in 1990 to 119.57x10 3 cases in 2017, showing an increase of 87.3% (4). The USA has diagnosed approximately 5,960 new cases of ALL and reported 1,470 ALL-associated mortalities in 2018 (5).…”
