Survival and prognostic factors analysis of 151 intestinal and pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors: a single center experience

Abstract: Background: Intestinal and pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (IP-NETs) are rare tumors with heterogeneous outcomes. The aim of our study was to determine the clinical, therapeutic and pathological factors which impact the overall survival (OS) in IP-NETs. Methods: All the patients diagnosed with IP-NETs at the Nantes University Hospital between October 1994 and October 2013 were retrospectively analysed. Patients with MEN-1 (Type 1 Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia) or Von Hippel-Lindau syndrome were excluded. Addit… Show more

“…Other significant prognostic markers incorporated into the GI-NEC score were LDH, PS, alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and presence of liver metastases [14]. A further retrospective study of 151 patients with intestinal and pancreatic NENs (70% of whom were grade 3), identified age at diagnosis >65 years, presence of metastases, higher grade and large primary tumour size as adverse prognostic markers [15].…”

“…The clinicopathological characteristics of G-NEN are different in patients over the world. A number of studies have generally grouped all neuroendocrine tumors of the digestive system into one [3][4][5], but studies focus on G-NEN alone Accounted for very little. Therefore, we retrospectively collected the clinicopathological data and follow-up data of patients with a gastric neuroendocrine tumor in a Chinese hospital in this study, and we conducted a detailed analysis aiming to explore the clinicopathological characteristics of patients with G-NEN and the factors related to survival, which might provide new clues for the research of this sort of tumors.…”

“…Different response rates and survival outcomes of NETs, even within the same group, might be attributed to its heterogeneous nature. There are number of studies in the literature to identify prognostic or predictive markers in NETs [7][8][9][10]. However, there are still no well-established…”
