Métodos: Abordagem do tipo revisão integrativa.

ABSTRACTObjective: To review in the scientific literature the causes of death in patients with chronic renal failure on hemodialysis. Methods: Integrative review study type. Data collection was performed in December 2016 using the descriptors "Renal Insufficiency, Chronic", "Renal Dialysis" and "Cause of Death" associated with the boolean operator "and" and inserted into the databases BDENF, LILACS, PUBMED via Medline, CINAHL, Scielo and Web of Science, using as an inclusion criteria, original articles available, published between 2012 and 2016, in English, Portuguese and Spanish. Results: It were evaluated 14 articles, in which it was found that the patients undergoing dialysis treatment have high mortality rates due to several causes, however the main ones are cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. It was identified the main causes of mortality in patients with chronic renal dialysis, being a large number of patients suffering from SAH and DM, which results in complications related to these pathologies. Conclusion: It is therefore essential to identify and monitor patients with SAH, DM and renal repercussions in order to considerably reduce the high morbidity and mortality rates of chronic renal patients.
