Zinc is an essential trace mineral to fish and vital to various biological processes and function. The artificial diets offered to intensively cultivated fish must possess the zinc content required by the animal metabolism for health maintenance and high weight gain. However, essential elements must also be in an available form to be utilized by the organism. Thus, this study was designed to evaluate the effects of different zinc forms, including organic zinc (zinc amino acid complex) and inorganic zinc (zinc sulfate) as feed additives in diets on in vitro protein digestibility, growth performance, feed utilization, digestive enzyme activity, immune response and muscle quality of Asian seabass (Lates calcarifer). The study was assigned in CRD with 3 treatments and 3 replicates. Three groups of fish with mean weight 22.54 ± 0.80 g, were given a basal diet either unsupplemented (control) or supplemented with 50 mg Zn kg −1 , as zinc sulfate (ZnSO 4) or zinc amino acid complex (ZnAA). The fish were fed experimental diets 3.0% of their body weight per day, twice daily at 08.00 and 16.00 h, for 10 weeks. At the end of the experiment, no significant differences were observed on protein digestibility, survival, growth performance and feed utilization across the three dietary treatments (P>0.05). Fish fed ZnSO 4 diets exhibited a significant increase in the specific activities of total protease, pepsin and trypsin compared with ZnAA and the control (P<0.05). Hematocrit, lysozyme and superoxide dismutase activities of fish fed ZnAA diets were significantly higher compared with all other groups (P<0.05). However, no significant differences were observed for muscle quality and whole body composition (P>0.05). The results of the present work allowed us to conclude that there was no difference in the growth between the two zinc sources but ZnAA supplementation exhibited a higher immunity response in Asian seabass.

One of the essential factors to be addressed in the development of aquaculture is the feeding regime. This study was investigated to assess the effects of feeding rate on growth performance, feed utilization, chemical body composition survival rate, cannibalism and morphological indices of Asian Seabass, Lates calcarifer . Intended for the trial, one hundred forty sea bass individuals with an average weight 5.47 ± 0.11 g were randomly distributed in 4 concrete tanks (914 cm × 183 cm 122 cm) each; length × width × depth) and volume 18,399 L, for total 68 days. The fishes were fed with a pelleted diet containing 46% crude protein for different feeding groups designated as (T1, T2, T3 and T4). The feed was supplied with a rate of (T1) 3%, (T2) 4%, (T3) 6%, and (T4) 9% of fish biomass per day and feeding frequency were maintained three times per day to all the groups. At the end of the trial water physicochemical parameters was in acceptable range for Asian sea bass growth. The average daily weight gain (g), weight gain (g) and specific growth rate (%) was significantly higher ( p < 0.05) in T3 and T4 as compared to T1 and T2 group. The poorest feed conversion ratio was recorded in T1 group with 3% biomass per day. The cannibalism rate was significantly ( p < 0.05) higher in T1 (3%) compared to T3 and T4 treatment. The morphological indices, condition factors (CF), viscerosomatic index and hepatosomatic index (HSI) was significantly higher in T4 group as compared to other treatments. The protein, moisture and ash contents of the whole biomass of the Asian sea bass were not significantly influenced by feeding rate. The fat levels in the fish bodies increased significantly ( p < 0.05) with increasing feeding ratio. The phenomenal regression indicates that 6.5% feeding rate per day is optimum for best growth performance, survival and minimum cannibalism rate for Asian sea bass in captivity. The outcome of the finding will help in promotion for not only the coastal aquaculture in Pakistan abut also elsewhere.

We consider a methodology for organizing hybrid computing structures to simulate abrupt changes in controlled natural processes and analyzing phases of extreme environmental phenomena. Systems of differential equations with the dynamically redefinable right-hand side at special moments (events) are used. The truth conditions for transitions are obtained from computing other equations for additional characteristics of the state of a generation. Threshold states in process modeling are the result of the inclusion of trigger functions. Their values on the right-hand side are specifically different from the neutral value only in narrow ranges of the space of changing characteristics of a hybrid system and depend on the initial conditions. The restricted limits of functions and their domain of values rest on the core of the threshold effects for the simulated biosystem, which are observed under special conditions. The method allows us to implement actual qualitative changes in management scenarios as bifurcations of the appearance (reduction) of equilibrium states or the boundary crisis of a complex attractor consisting of intervals scattered in a limited area. Computational scenarios for different population processes are investigated. The collapse of fish stocks is described in the model by the examples of cod in the North Atlantic and sturgeon in the Caspian Sea. The rapid outbreak of their abundance is modeled according to observations on the pulsation of the population size of pests of relict evergreen forests. The threshold scenario of the outbreak of insects in the scenario ends spontaneously due to the local exhaustion of forest resources with a sharp transition to fluctuations of the pest, which are ordinary for the environment. The methodology of organizing the structure for the population model is summarized to predict a wide range of extreme processes related to rapid changes in controlled biological systems and the spread of unwanted biological invasions.
