“…Thus, our results suggest that there were no large behavioral or physiological differences between insects from the two sources. Purcell & Suslow (1984) suggested that movement out of pear by psylla in the fall occurred in a 'wave-like' pattern, and that a large portion of the movement takes place within fairly short distances of the orchard (i.e., < 150 m; Purcell & Suslow, 1984). came to a similar conclusion for winterforms moving over orchard and non-orchard habitats.…”

“…Immatures that experience short days produce winterform adults, whereas those exposed to long day conditions produce summerforms (McMullen & Jong, 1976;Mustafa & Hodgson, 1984). Summer generation adults are reproductive, and are apparently fairly sedentary (in that few leave the pear orchard unless population densities are high; Purcell & Suslow, 1984). Winterform adults first appear in early fall.…”

“…adams & los (1989) showed that yellow sticky traps can be used to predict densities of immature pear psyllids and damage to the host. Changes in activity or behaviour between sampling periods may obscure density changes between the same periods (Fleischer et al 1983;Purcell & Suslow 1984;Krysan & Horton 1991).…”
