Survey over Switching Filters for Salt & Pepper Noise Removal

Abstract: Switching filters for image salt & pepper noise removal have received considerable interests in recent years. Many switching median or mean filters have been developed. In this paper, a survey and comparative analysis are conducted among several newly developed switching filters. Their noise detection schemes are first analyzed and quantitatively assessed via two widely used measures, i.e., miss detection (MD) and false alarm (FA). Subsequently, several noise restoration ways are compared according to peak sig… Show more

“…PSNR is calculated through Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) and Mean Absolute Error (MAE). PSNR can be expressed as, (19) 1 N 3 (20) Where N is the total number of pixels, x i q and o? are the q th component noisy image pixel channel and its original, undisturbed value of pixel i respectively.…”

“…Simpler algorithm makes easy implementation median controlled adaptive recursive weighted filter achieved efficient calculations. However it is difficult to replace those contaminated pixels with closer original values [20]. [n this paper, several newly developed switching filters which are conceptual wise similar for removing impulse from color images are investigated.…”
