Survey of Transportation of Adaptive Multimedia Streaming service in Internet

Abstract: Streaming media systems such as YouTube, Netflix, and Apple Music are reining the multimedia world with frequent popularity among users. A key concern of quality perceived for video streaming applications over Internet is the Quality of Experience (QoE) that users experience. Due to changing network conditions, bit rate and initial delay, the multimedia file freezes or provides poor video quality to the end users. Researchers across industry and academia have explored HTTP Adaptive Streaming (HAS), which split… Show more

“…This sort of service involves the requirement of knowing the equipment the users have. It is also important to know the kind of content is being transmitted as well as the most appropriate protocols in order to adequate the transmission parameters to reach good values of quality of service (QoS) and quality of experience (QoE) [6]. Problems in network capacity can limit the amount of data the users can receive and thus the quality of video [7].…”

“…Authors in [13] introduced an extensive review of HAS techniques across multimedia and networking domains. They addressed the major issue that the users can perceive from the multimedia streaming, which is the QoE, along with the challenges that influence the QoS just like the variation of channel condition, which is normally ignored by the HAS technologies.…”

“…However, previous cooperative recovery schemes did not take the hierarchical encoding structure of SVC into account, which may not lead to a significant gain to SVC-based video multicast. In other words, from the perspective of user's Quality-of-Experience (QoE) [14], simply boosting the transmission rate does not necessarily result in improvements in the user perception of the video quality [15].…”
