Call admission control (CAC) is one of challenging issues for quality of service (QoS) provisioning in mobile multimedia network communication systems. CAC can be defined as the system that restricts the network access based on resource availability. A new call is admitted if enough idle resources are available in order to meet the QoS requirements of the new call without violating the QoS for already accepted calls, otherwise the call is rejected. This paper provides a survey of different CAC schemes used for mobile multimedia networks using soft computing techniques like artificial neural networks, fuzzy logic, and genetic algorithms. Soft computing can be used to obtain optimized results from many parameters used in mobile multimedia networks. Our goal is to review and compare the best features of soft computing applied in mobile multimedia networks to improve the capability of existing CAC methods. This paper also elaborates the future directions for the use of untouched areas of artificial neural networks, fuzzy logic, and genetic algorithm.

To compensate for the adverse effects caused by radio link in worldwide interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) networks, many radio resource management approaches have been present to assign orthogonal frequency division multiplexing access slots for seeking better performance. However, no WiMAX standards for optimal slot allocation have been defined. In this study, a new uplink bandwidth allocation scheme, GRAMA, which combines grey relational analysis with multiple attributes and the knapsack algorithms, is proposed to improve resource utilization while satisfying the user's requirements of throughput and fairness. Channel aware technology and service flow priority are used in the proposed scheme to achieve the highest performance index. A series of simulation is conducted under the scenarios of constant-bit-rate (CBR) voice traffic, variable-bit-rate (VBR) video traffic, and VBR data traffic. The performance is evaluated in terms of bandwidth utilization, transmission throughput, and fairness and simulation result which indicate that the proposed GRAMKA outperforms the conventional fuzzy and knapsack algorithms.

The popularity of mobile devices, especially intelligent mobile phones, significantly prompt various location-based services (LBSs) in cloud systems. These services not only greatly facilitate people's daily lives, but also cause serious threats that users' location information may be misused or leaked by service providers. The dummy-based privacy protection techniques have significant advantages over others because they neither rely on trusted servers nor need adequate number of trustworthy peers. Existing dummy-based location privacy protection schemes, however, cannot yet provide long-term privacy protection. In this paper, we propose four principles for the dummy-based long-term location privacy protection (LT-LPP). Based on the principles, we propose a set of long-term consistent dummy generation algorithms for the LT-LPP. Our approach is built on soft computing techniques and can balance the preferred privacy protection and computing cost. Comprehensive experimental results demonstrate that our approach is effective to both long-term privacy protection and fake path generation for LBSs in mobile clouds.
